why do so many people say twin towers?

its the TWO towers!!!

two different things.

one relates to media overhype surrounding a terrorist action in 2001 in NYC.

one is the title of a book, and subsequent movie about a bunch of hobbits, elves, dwarves and humans kicking ass in middle earth.

I always thought it was Lord of the Rings: The Twin Towers. We'd like to see the rings tightly wrapped around Osama's neck. 😉

I dont think its necessarily media overhype.. Ive always called WTC the twin towers. But i'll have to admit that I actually do slip occassionally and say twin towers instead of Two

Yeah being someone who lived in the NY Metro area, I've always called the buildings the "twin towers", so I wouldn't chalk it up to media overhype ... thats just generally speaking what they were called to a lot of people.

Probably because a signifigant part of our country with that similar name was bombed off the earth 2 years ago?

Yeah but why would they relate this to two towers in a film that are a far distance apart and both have evil do-ers in them.

Wow, I have never heard anyone call the Two Towers, the twin towers.

And much like everyone else here, I always referred to the two WTC towers as the twin towers.

Because despite being different, the names The Two Towers and The Twin Towers are very similar, and thus quite easily accidentally switched.

By the way, it was a book long before it was a film.
