Why do so many of the good game series die or turn crappy?

Chaotic42

Lifer
Master of Orion
Falcon
Silent Service
Total Annihilation
Fallout
Final Fantasy
Starcraft (It's not my favorite, but I can't deny its awesomeness)
All of Microprose's stuff

There are probably a lot that I'm forgetting. These games are awsome. They're enough to make me fire up the video card and get gaming (which I don't do much of).

What kept these awesome games from continuing (or continuing to be so great)?

Star Craft is not dead, there will be another one if Blizzard wants to remain respectable. They haven't forgotten about it, StarCraft: Ghost is proof of that although that game isn't even out yet...

Is it just me, or would another SC RTS sell 8393.2 times better than ghost? :-\

I think they just run out of ideas of where to take the games next. They try to hard to come up with storylines that will appease the players that it ends up turning crappy. Thats just my opinion though.

Falcon - Microprose died
Silent Service - ?
Total Annihilation
Fallout - Black Isle, Dead. Fallout 3 is till kickin though, taken over by Bethsheda Software, the same people that did the Elder Scrolls series
Final Fantasy - VII, good VIII, ok IX, WTF? X, had its moments XI, ??
Starcraft (It's not my favorite, but I can't deny its awesomeness) Blizard takes forever to do anything, how long did it take to get Diablo II out?
All of Microprose's stuff - long dead

I dont think you need a video card higher than a Riva 128 to run most of those 😛
