Why do smokers throw their butts on the ground?

Do they throw their soda cans and McDonalds wrappers on the ground too?

This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves out there... throwing in on the sidewalk, throwing it out the car window... I dont get who these people think they are.

Fine if you want to smoke (not in my face though) but ta hell if Im going to approve of you throwing your sh!t on the ground.

I only mention this as a rant/flame fest as I was walking into work today some lady on her 1st smoking break of the day (one of many Im sure) was outside the front door (thank you for making me walk through your stink) and as she came in behind me she tossed her remaining cigarette on the ground (still lit mind you). I told her "You dropped something" and she gave ME the dirty look. Kinda hipocritical I think.

Smokers by definition are lesser beings and as such we can't expect any better from them.

In regards to the can though some piece of asswipe crap through his empty can out of the window on the highway the other day and I barely missed it. It smacked the front of somebody else's car.

When I smoked and there wasn't a trash can around, I would squeeze the last bit of tobacco out of my cigarette and pocket the filter until I could find a place to dispose of it. Let me tell you it made for some nasty, stinking pockets, but I did it. Now that I've quit (cold turkey 7 years), I don't even consider the little ways that smoking is bad, I just consider it vile behavior and anyone who does it a moron. It's true that no one's harder on smokers than ex-smokers, and that right there should tell you something.

Next time you are at any intersection, look out your window in the gutter or the median. You will see dozens and dozens of them all over the ground. it's disgusting.

Not necessarily. It says it takes many years. In a typical landfill, no one knows how long it will take and it's far more than a few years. I still don't condone just throwing butts on the ground, though.

Around here, it seems like cans, tires, cigarette butts, couches, or anything else causing an inconvenience - they're all eligible to get tossed out, as long as you don't get caught doing it. I can't believe how lax people are about litter.
