Does anyone actually like that? Half the time you get butter patties in a bowl with Ice! WTF is up with that. You can't do anything with frozen butter. Can't spread it on rolls or bread, can't spread it on food... You have to let it sit around until it softens up.

Who the hell are the people that actually think frozen butter is useful?

First thing I do at a restaurant that has fozen butter is dump out the butter bowl so they can start warming up. Sometimes even have to hold tem in my hands to try to get them to warm up too.

*sigh*

Stupid restaurant managers...

Yes, butter will go bad if left out.

It might go bad after a week or two but when it's wrapped up in those little packages it's fine. I know people that leave their butter in the cupboard (so it's always soft) and it doesn't go bad for weeks. Even if they store it in the freezer/fridge, they should take out the days amount in the morning and let it soften up. It sure won't go bad in one day...

I agree.

It's also a "looks" thing, though.

Butter gets weird after being left out.. turns yellow(er), ick. But that's only when exposed to air.. so, I dunno.

Butter can be left out, but what you get is usually margarine, which cant be left out. They get it shipped to them frozen, and store it frozen, but I agree, they should be less lazy and thaw what they expect to use for the day.
Where do you get it in a dish of ice? I have never experienced that.

Margerine is typically hydrogenated, which extends shelf life.. not decreases it.

Why do you say that margarine can't be left out? It is organically inert.

Come to think of it, it just occurred to me now that my mom owns a bakey and she can't leave butter out. Just think, I took the the food lice3snse test and passed and I still d not know the reason why we have to store butter in the fridge. The nation eats of my hands:)
