Why do print servers cost so much?

think about it this way...by the time you actually need a print server, you'll prolly be dealing with a few hundred thousand pages regularly and the printer is prolly a vital resource. Sure, you could set up something yourself, but do you really wanna be left without someone to blame when it goes down?
 
use an old/slow pc for a print server
or some of these cheapo home router thingys have a printer server
 
I think the most important question to answer b4 taking any of these suggestions is why do you need a print server?
 
That's why when I was looking or a router a few years ago, I made sure to pick one up with a print server.
