...ask for a price for something or several things in WTB section, you give them a very reasonable price, and in return they give you a "I can get that for alot less, blah blah blah". My question is, then why did you not jump on it then? You asked for something specific and I provided, I'm sorry it wasn't 25% of what it is worth or free.

Well I am surprised you don't already know but it is one of those buyer/consumer war tactics to try to get a seller to lower their price. It will sometimes make the seller feel desperate to want to sell their item and lower the price to be able to sell it. Many people try and use it. It is far more common than you may think. You can either A) Give in or B) Stand your ground

Sometimes people do it just to get a sellers hopes up as well to make it seem like they have a buyer. Don't ask me why some people like to do this. Ask them why if you really want to know. I always wondered the same thing but never bothered to ask. It is not important to me when most extra stuff I throw away or give away locally. Much easier. Though it all depends. Half the time I just keep it so I have an extra. The other half the time I just throw it away. Space is not free you know. :)

I do it all the time. I also question why sellers price things at retail when they are used, then complain when you offer them less. It's a personal FS/FT forum, not newegg. If you plan to stand behind the product and have the same resources for RMA like newegg does, then fine charge retail. Otherwise, expect to be offered less especially for USED items.

Also, what YOU think is a reasonable price may not be the same thought the buyer has. For example, I see iPod touches sell here all the time ranging in price from $75 to $150 shipped for your average 8GB model depending on generation and condition. Personally, I have purchased three at $70 each, so why would I pay $150 just because another seller thinks his price is "reasonable or fair" when I've gotten them MUCH less from other people?

The primary issue seems to be that often sellers are not doing their research before pricing their items. They pop on newegg and see an item, they price similarly and expect to get that amount. If it's me, I'd rather pay a 10-20% premium and get an item NEW from newegg knowing if there's an issue i'll get an instant RMA and refund/replacement rather than dealing with a possible seller giving me the "it worked when I sent it" line.

FS/FT is a flea market or a yard sale. Buyers don't give a shit if you spent X amount of dollars on it... they want to know how LITTLE they can get it for from you.

The name of the game in FS/FT is to cut away the chaff from peoples' conversations with you. Look at the numbers, make offers, counter offers, and deal. Educate YOURSELF on how much something is worth and what YOU are willing to pay/accept for it. Deal within those parameters, be friendly, or be on your way.

I've turned down MANY a good deal just because it wasn't what I was willing to pay. I've also accepted several deals that I really had no intention of doing simply because the price was too good to be true.

This is the way FS/FT works. If you get irritated by haggling, then FS/FT isn't for you.
