Why do people who know about "hot deals" share them?

Eventually their AR dept will find the hole, and track it back to you. From there, I'm not sure what will happen, but, if they can show you've exploited the system you would be in trouble. The key is that you admitted to doing this for 6mo's now instead of one time. A one time error is likely not going to do anything, but, keep exploiting the system and you are likely to be burned.

It's not something I instigate- this is a vendor that has a certain legitimate ordering protocol to which I adhere to, and legitimately pay for goods. For some reason a random order gets thrown into some weird state and gets delivered for free. While I'm aware this happens there's nothing I do to instigate this odd state.

Ergo, if they want to send me free stuff I'm all for it.

Sharing works both ways... ATHD or FW people may have gotten a nice deal through other threads, so they in turn, return the favor.

Sure you have to be selective about what you share, but if you're not going to take advantage of it anyway, why wouldn't you share ? Or share after you've done it yourself already.
