Why do people who know about "hot deals" share them?

I used to be of the sharing type, but lately I just keep my mouth shut- sharing a deal kills it, typically. Now I just laugh at FW and hot deals. Why share your deal when it will just get run over and killed? 😕

I've got one online vendor that's got a giant hole in their system. For the last 6 months I've let them send me over $1k worth of freebies. Merry Christmas to me.

Will I ever share it? NEVAR! 😀

(Don't PM me, please...)

Edit: Some people seem to have reading comprehension issues, for them my other post reads:

"I don't think I'm explaining myself well- let's back up. People who share hot deals before they get any kind of fulfillment on it wind up shooting themselves in the foot when all 5 billion orders get cancelled, including theirs."

Some people are nice. Some people might not want the deal. Some people might have used the deal, and if it's some kind of once only deal, why not let other people use it afterwards?

you know that is considered stealing?

THink of it this way, just because you see a back door at your local walmart open, does it mean for you should go through it with your stuff instead of checking out and going through the front doors?

Just keep in mind, $1,000 worth of 'freebies' is in the felony range. I wouldn't be suprised once they found the hole in their system and found you have exploited it for them to press charges against you

Doubtful. They'd probably be more interested in hiring me to plug the holes. 😀

I think your analogy is somewhat flawed. Think of walking into Walmart, picking something up, taking it to the register and paying 1 cent. The cashier smiles, thanks you and that's that. While you certainly could debate the morality of it the legal aspects are hardly questionable. It's their process that's permitting me to have things at a discount.

How is pricematching, rebates and coupons stealing? Various companies put these in place to stimulate sales. If someone figures out a way to sweetin the deal buy stacking these methods, it not stealing its playing by thier rules. Companies put themselves in those postions, and so what if few people that take advantage of these deals. The few hundred people that take advantage of the little extra to get it free or cheaper is of no consequense to a multibillion dollar corporation.

If you're talking "why do people share hot deals they end up missing out on?", then they're stupid for doing it until they've got their deal.

Depends on whether their orders are the size of Rossman's LCD orders 😉

But a few die-hard geeks who get a good deal from a company a few times are more likely to recomment that company to the hundreds of 'normal' folks who ask geeks for help on where to buy hardware. And they themselves are more likely to order from a company with which they have good experiences than from one which didn't fix or refund a broken hub for over 6 months despite loads of mails, phonecalls and letters (Tech Data).

I'll tell you why I do: When I see a hot deal, its usually not a "back door" or any of that, its a legitimate hot deal. Now when I post it, sometimes, other people chime in with suggestions to make it even hotter. It has happened many times. You share it, and then with enough looks, someone either has a coupon link, or rebate or something that I didn't initially see. That's why I do it. It makes it better for me and everyone else.

🙂

Had it ever occured to you that some people that share the deal have no interest in it whatsoever? Perhaps it's for an item I have no need for, or no money, or already have it. It's called helping out a fellow human being.

Eventually their AR dept will find the hole, and track it back to you. From there, I'm not sure what will happen, but, if they can show you've exploited the system you would be in trouble. The key is that you admitted to doing this for 6mo's now instead of one time. A one time error is likely not going to do anything, but, keep exploiting the system and you are likely to be burned.

Sometimes people share because they don't want to be the only one to get in trouble, if it goes bad.

I share - when I find something - because it's payback for all the good deals other people have posted that I've profited from.

Once again iwearnosox is showing everyone what an idiot he really is...
Puh-lease. If you read the thread you'd see I'm merely questioning those that illogically hose themselves out of a deal by plastering it all over the internet.

Oh, and go fvck yourself, if you've nothing constructive wobbling around in that pea of yours it's probably best you left the posting to others.
