Why do people watch soap operas?

Ever since I started working at a Vet clinic, my life if so full of drama I hardly find the need to watch TV.

One chick is probably going to get a divorce, take her three kids and run off with some extern who just got out of rehab for almost hitting a squad car after drinking too much.

Another I swear runs on a mix antihistamines, painkillers and coca cola to keep her ego going. It's a wonder she isn't dead from liver and kidney failure.

After her, there is a woman that spends most of the days arguing with her husband by texting back and forth on her cell. She said that they had broken up two times before getting engaged, then breaking that off, then getting back together and finally got hitched.

An older woman that is trying her best to overthrow management. We can't get rid of her... Yet. They promoted her once but she sucked at it and stepped down.

A hippie of a woman that is a loudmouth and spits out crap without even thinking about it. When you try and tell her she is full of it she will argue her point until you give up find something more meaningful to do. Fun fact: She loves meat but thinks anyone that hunts is a monster. Lucky for us she will be moving soon so they wont have to deal will all the red tape to fire her.

And finally a young woman that is probably smarter than any of the techs there, she is also the only normal one out of the group. But she is very timid and as such, gets bossed around most of the girls there.

And don't even get me started on the work politics.

You may ask me ?Why the HELL do you work there!??. Well It pays well enough, I enjoy working with animals, get to see some REALLY cool stuff (Blood'n'Guts kind of stuff), and most of that drama crap doesn't affect me so I pretty much just sit back and watch.

Hell, I might even start writing this stuff down and sell the idea to some studio and pay off my college loans when I'm done working there.

People like to watch drama. Drama sells. It's the same with shows like 24 which are action + drama.

I swear one day I am going to write a book about my HS summers working in a factory... those people were characters.

My mother worked as a Vet tech throughout my childhood. Those places are a magnet for drama for some reason...

Have you never watched a soap opera? Makes your life look fairly boring and 'normal'.

Because if people had to focus on their own lives 100% of the time there would be a few more suicides in the world.
Guys have sports and cars, and women have soaps and plastic surgery. The rest of us have computers and video games.
