Why do people watch college football?

i really don't understand it, i mean it would make sense if you went to one of thoes schools and are rooting for your team, however most people didn't yet there is a fanatical following of college football, and it boggles my mind.

I like football and watch whenever the Pats and Bills are on, because they are the 2 teams i follow, but i fail to see why people follow and root for college football teams that play in states that they have never been to.

why do you care who is ranked ahead of whoever in the sh!tty BCS excuse for a ranking system? I don't understand it, its not even that entertaining

Because for some of us it is entertaining... Just like some people watch NASCAR, some people watch Golf, some people watch billiards...

Why question us??

Why do you give a fvck aboutt he Pats or the Bills? You've never met any of the players, you don't know them, why do you care?

If you can answer that, then you can answer your own question.

Exactly.

I grew up in Michigan. I grew up going to games at Michigan Stadium. I have followed/watched Michigan football since I was seven years old. Who cares if I didn't go to Michigan? Is it required that I attend a university in order to have a rooting interest in a team?

I'm from Nebraska. There are no professional teams in the state. Heck, there aren't any professional teams for any sport within 8 driving hours for the most part. Thus college sports are all that anyone seems to care about. I personally didn't pay much attention for many, many years. Then when I was going to get married, I forced myself to watch college football to have at least one thing in common with my father-in-law. I got hooked ever since.

I personally don't root for teams. I root against teams. Much more fun that way. I watch teams that the fans have way overhyped and that keep losing but the polls have ranked high anyways. Then for the rest of my life I root against those teams. I also root against teams that are opponents of those select few hated teams (so that they look worse). That pretty much covers every game. I either have a major team to root against or a supporting team to root against. Makes all games important to me.

The truth is I really shouldn't be justifying my rooting interests to someone who claims to be both a Bills and a Pats fan.

🙂

no see that i understand, however if you grew up in say west virginia and rooted for Michigan that wouldent make sense

Football is boring to watch. I liked playing it in high school, but watching it on TV is agonizing.

hahahaha, true, i grew up in New England, but now live in Upstate NY, i root for the pats more but also the bills, cept they are uber sh!tty this year,

College football is so much more passionate than professional ball. You have all sorts of rivalries among different teams. Each and every game matters; if you lose even a single game, your whole season can be screwed. The players play like they actually care if they win or lose. There is also the rare occassion that you will personally know some of the players, or that at the very least some of the players might be from your hometown or your general area.

I can understand it if you are a big sports fan and there isn't a major college football program in your area.

Like, if you were from Columbus, Ohio, chances are you are a Michigan fan because we all know there are no major college football teams remotely close to that town. 🙂

Seriously though, people are drawn to different teams for different reasons. I am a Detroit Tigers fan by heart, but I also root for the San Francisco Giants. Why would a kid from Flint, Michigan become a Giants fan? Because he loves sports and was a huge Will Clark fan.

What I can't stand is when someone latches onto a team just because they are having success and then bails on them for another perennial winner when their current "favorite" team starts to suck. Case in point, you can't grow up a Notre Dame fan and then "become" a Oklahoma or Miami fan because they start winning. Bandwagon fans suck. 🙂

I think college football is more entertaining than pro. there is more variety and range of skills, which is just more entertaining to me.

and then there's the bands, the cheerleaders, the campuses. Of course a lot of this is missing from tv broadcasts, which is a shame. I'd much rather watch the band play during halftime than here 20 minutes of whitless banter and crap from other games. That part I guess is driven by gambling.

I watch and cheer for LSU because I grew up and live in Louisiana.

Another reason I watch college football because it is fun and excite.
For example, games from last week between Perdue and Michigan, Florida St. and Wake Forest, Alabama and Tenn, LSU and Troy, Texas AM and Colo, OK and Mizz, BC and ND, etc. went down to the last second.

College football are more about fight for your school and not about the big contract as the NFL.

Go TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

College football is alot more entertaining to watch in my opinion. I mean some of the catches these guys make in college are nuts you never see stuff like the in the NFL (mainly because A the QBs are more acurate in the NFL, and B the DBs are alot better so more of the hard catches are broken up.

becasue for me it is a whole lot more entertaining than watching pro football. the past couple of years i have developed a strong distaste for pro football.

college play because they have heart, the pros play because they want that paycheck.

Any of the pro sports are just full of prodigys that let their skill get to their head and expect to get paid exorbiant amounts of money to perform. I'm good at basketball so I should get paid more than the people that teach your children, make your lives safer, clean your environment, make sure you don't eat fishsticks full of oil, etc... It's just a huge conundrum that our stupid society has fallen into that it's never going to get out of. Same with celebs. Yes some are hot, but seriously just cuz they can look good on a camera they make millions while the average American gets paid jack crap for a somewhat meaningful job. If people would boycott the stupid leagues then maybe we wouldn't have to worry about so much social reform and bull crap like that. I would love to see a strike against the MLB from a fan standpoint rather than a players....

If I could get .01% of any top name pro athlete's wages per year for the rest of my life, I wouldn't ever have to work again.....
