Why do people use WASD...

...when ESDF is clearly better. You waste 3 buttons and a whole finger with WASD. Anybody that touch types should have no problem hitting Tab, caps lock, shift with the pinky. Left Ctrl is kinda hard though. Plus you open up keys that have good mnemonics like

W - weapon
G - grenade
C - crouch
V - voice
A - activate/use

The arrow keys are the only way to go. Use ctrl/shift/enter/delete/end & 5 mouse buttons for other stuff.

<-------- Old School.

How about this?
cursors: fwd, back, strafe
num0: jump
del, rctrl: crouch
wheel, brackets: change wpn
enter: use
shift: walk
space: i have big hands

Anyway, Final Fantasy VII was the best, because I could play it with my right hand only.

I've always used ESDF because it's the natural position for typing. But lately I've gone back to WASD just because I don't want to remap every damn key everytime I reinstall or install games since the industry standard seems to be WASD.

Plus with most new games there are a lot buttons to remap, if you remap for ESDF then you have remap the buttons that E and F were mapped to, then remap those and so on.

Largely out of lazyness...and the fact that I use an MS natural keyboard that feels *slightly* more comfortable with the WASD layout.

wwwww3 aaaaddddadadadadadddaa(left mouse button)(left mouse button)(left mouse button)r wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww 1 (left mouse button)(left mouse button)(left mouse button) k pwned!

Nothing like some knife stabbing! 😀

I use ESDF too... because of natural typing. but if you really want to be effecient... use ASDF 🙂 In theory, you'd be able to move faster because you have a dedicated finger for forward/back. My friend plays this way.. i can't get used to it, ESDF faster for me

I use AZXC 🙂 I can't stand WASD at all. Using my ring finger seems so unnatural. I use index finger for A/Z (forward/backward) and thumb for X/C (strafe left, right) and thumb button on mopuse for jump, ctrl for crouch. That's all I need.

It's like a secret handshake for the asshat club. Although, since we're typing, we can't have real handshakes.

I too use the arrow keys. Although it's harder on my natural keyboard. But since I'm left handed and use the mouse in the left hand, using WASD/ESDF with my right hand would be too awkward. I suppose I could try IJKL or something... Hmmm....

I used to exclusively use the default controls when games didn't have that many. Then, I started using the arrow keys until I got tired of sitting crooked or always having to move the keyboard to the left.

ESDF is where it's at! 🙂

understandable

I find that WSAD or anything similar are terrible to use. My middle finger is on such an angle that I have to move it way to the left to hit the W key and it's very awkward. I find that using L for up, comma for down, M for left and the period for right is the best one for me.
