BTW, this thread started concerning misused words and phrases, not mondegreens.


edit: FWIW, Manfred Mann sang it that way, then tried to blame a problem with the Dolby processing for his mistake.

Got blindsided in a bar a long time ago. Insisted on filing a police report. In the written statement, kept describing the guy that hit me as the perpetraitor. I was way intoxicated.

I have heard these used in real life:

"Half of one, six dozen of another."
"Dropped that like a hot potato."


And one I made up and use on purpose:

"We will burn that bridge when we get to it."

Dropped like a hot potato is normal usage.

I like your last one...I'm a veteran bridge burner.
