i actually like the fake maple syrup better

mrs. butterworths all day!

i'm 5'10 160lbs with a 6 pack :)

Same here (except the six pack). I have tried numerous times to embrace "real" maple syrup. It just doesn't taste as good as the fake stuff.

Same thing happened to me. It was certainly an awakening when I had the real stuff.

Yep. I lived in northern NE for about a decade and once I had maple syrup I was done with the other stuff. If I know I'm going to a breakfast place I bring a small container of it if I don't think they'll have it.

Anyway, the key difference between artificial and natural flavors in most cases is that the latter has many substances which play together to form a complex flavor. In contrast artificial flavors home in on one or at most a few of the dominant chemicals which give the overall impression of a food, but there is no depth. For those who know, the difference is huge.

The year I spent trying to upgrade elementary school diets taught me there's an entire generation coming who thinks 32 oz. slurpees and a bag of fire cheetos is what's for breakfast. They'll hand a banana or orange to their mothers because they don't know how to open it.

There's a lot of variation in real maple syrup too...there's some I just don't like. In my area, it's super watery (and people like it that way). I don't like it water & I don't like the really dark grade of maple syrup. I've grown to like the lighter, thicker kind (light or medium natural syrup).

I see it at work all the time, the younger guys show up with a 2-liter of soda & energy drinks and start drinking them in the morning at breakfast time. The thought of our nation's general state of health will be in 20 years is kind of scary o_O

A guy at work recently showed my how to open a banana. I formerly bit the stem almost through, and peeled it down. Turns out you can pinch the bottom, and it splits open nicely for easy peeling. That's one of those mind blowing stupid little things you wonder how you missed your whole life. Seeing that was like the sky opening up and shining rays of knowledge down on me :^D
