Why do people trash public restrooms?

Why is it? I've been to many people's homes in my lifetime and have never seen anyone pee outside the toilet bowl, crumpled paper towels on the floor, stupid messages on the bathroom walls, etc... I avoid public restrooms like plague because of that.

So if people are not doing it at home, why ruin public restrooms? I just don't get it.

I usually start to write crazy stuff in the stalls when I get high on base.
