WHY do people still use Quicktime and/or Real Player???

i have no problems with quicktime player. I don't like installing Real because it's got so many options pre-selected for you and you have to undo most of them. I just use Real Alternative (MPC) for real files.

quicktime doesnt install anything on your computer. dont know where you got that idea. the only company you can trust to NOT put extra crap on your machine is apple.

The VLC site says version 0.8.0 does NOT include DTS (because DTS, Inc. is claiming patent infringment)

My question is: Does version 0.7.2 include it? And is there a workaround to make it work in version 0.8.0?

i recall quicktime hijacking control of all my files without my permission so quicktime became my default player, and then after uninstalling it, i had to re-associate all file types with the application i wanted to use

the thing about quicktime is that qttask is a friggin pain in the arse. it keeps coming back even after you disable it in the run directory in regedit. phok!!!

OT, but has anyone used Adobe Reader Lite (aka Speed-Up)? Supposedly a fast-loading pdf reader.
I hate clicking on pdf links b/c of Reader loads so slowly.....
