3 years ago they were a tiny bit cool. Not anymore since everybody and their dog has one, so why do people still think they're cool for using them? I was walking through the mall yesterday and apart from the fact that half the people have one on like a six-shooter from days of old people instantly get this air of arrogance about them when they answer or use their phone. I think cellphones in public are a non-violent way to show off as a gunfighter might have done 120 years ago.
I'm not saying its all bad. I have a phone too. I'm not even talking about the cellphone melodies right now - which should be a criminal offense BTW - I'm talking about the people who go to the mall just to be seen on their cellphone, or the people who go up to the food court and while ordering are "far too important" to stop yapping on the phone.
I was with a guy a year back and we were right in the middle of an order at a pizza place and his phone rang. Like an addict he was physically unable to avoid answering it. He then proceeded to tell the person on the other end that he was busy ordering food - all the while we have a lineup behind us and the clerk is looking at him like hes an imbocile.
