Also for the most part I find that that "the faster the car = the slower the driver" rule applies ... I'm not talking about hot-rod boy in his Mustang/Camaro or Ricers in their misc plastic fart-mobiles btw, but folks in fast & NICE cars like high-end BMW's or Mercedes.

That's cause most nice cars are pretty low and would get owned by the crappy roads if they went faster (i know this is the way it is in the bay). Also, possibly to stay off cop radar.

When I'm in my 86' Dx I usually go faster then most people but when I get in my other car (which is much more capable of speeding) I always end up going slower and having more people pass me.

Edit: Should've read the post above me. Staying off the cop radar is probably the main reason...

IMO, this is one of the leading causes of "Road Rage", people speed up when others try to pass, passing motorist speeds up even more, then usually has to quickly get back into the proper lane.
Passed motorist then feels he got "Cut Off" and seeks vengeance.
Road Rage ensues!
Grow up people!!!

BTW, any time someone attempts to pass me, I will slow a little or perhaps a lot if need be, just to make it safer on the both of us.

Since I got my license I drive at speed limit...perhaps +5 over in rural...no problem with ppl passing me, some just pass and disappear at the horizon!

that's stupid. i hate people like you. you're obviously going slower than i'm going, so get out of my way.
and who are you to say that one is going too fast? if you need to control someone's speed, go become a police officer

 I don't need any help regulating my speed.

I can't imagine that people who own such high performance cars would feel like they have anything to prove

Question is, are you in the left lane?

In the morning rush hour, I always get stuck behind people who are going barely over the speed limit in the left lane not passing anyone or going the same speed as the car on the right.

I wish people would learn the left is for passing, then move.

Either they're a jerk, or you did something annoying, so now they're taunting you.
I do the latter, very rarely.

Why would you do that? Who cares what side they pass you on?

I don't really mind that during driving... here's what I hate:

Someone's coming up behind you... at a decent pace... you're catching up to the person in front of you at a decent pace. You judge the distances and if the person behind you isn't considerate and speeds up, he's going to trap you in behind the slow car in front of you.

I absolutely hate it when people do that to me. I'm already driving at 7-9mph over the speed limit, but when I pass someone and notice that there's someone behind me going faster I SPEED UP. Today driving to work I was passing a Geo Metro and I noticed he was getting a bit closer to the truck in front of him, so I accelerated a bit to get out of his way so he could pass the truck... lo-and-behold, once I was out of the way, he changed lanes. It's all about being considerate and not doing something that you yourself would not like.

What I really hate is when you're passing someone and they have a car in front of them that they may pass soon. The thing is, you switch lanes and begin to accelerate... they cut you off. Someone did that to me yesterday and let me tell you how much room was in front of him and the vehicle in front of him... enough that I switched back to the right lane, accelerated and jumped in front of him without a problem.

Good thing the Altima is (relatively) fast and has no problems picking up speed even when auto climate control's got the AC on :D. Bad thing is the MPG meter on the car keeps me from going too fast as I'll say, "Oh noes! I'm below 10 MPG! I'm going to ruin my 26.5mpg rating!"

The best strategy I've found in NC is to sneak up on people and then gun it to pass them. If you catch them by surprise, the instinct to speed up doesn't kick in.

I do it when there's clearly nowhere for them to go after they pass me. I'm stuck so why should they be allowed to cut me off? The gap between me and the next car is supposed to be for safety.

I see the opposite and these owners typically drive slower than others. You must be thinking of ricers and pickup trucks.

yea, another one to agree. those guys go super-slow. they don't need to go fast. they KNOW their car can go faster than anybody else's on the road.
they're usually old also. at least middle-aged (what young person can afford a ferrari?)

When ever I drove my dad's porsche, I'd be sure to be at or a little under the speed limit, mainly because I know every cop was just waiting for me to do something stupid. However, if I did run into a situation where I needed to pass some one, It usually ended up that I'd be passing them going way too fast.

It should never happen on the right. Either you're being an impatient jerk, or the guys in the left and far left lanes aren't going as fast as they should be going.

You should never have to pass on the right.

I agree that you shouldn't have to but in reality you do. I constantly pass idiots on the right who are just hanging out in the left lane doing absolutely nothing. I'm not just going to sit behind them and do below the speed limit too.

on a related note... why do people slow down when they see that someone got pulled over by the side of the road? do they really think that the cop is going to drop everything in order to chase after them for going 5-10 mph over the speed limit? if anything, the cop will probably get more annoyed at people jamming on the brakes and causing traffic.

if they were going that fast in the first place, I wouldn't have needed to pass them :(

Why are you passing? Any halfway busy single lane road will result in you behind someone else. You are getting no where fast.

Anyways ...I used to do this. What pissed me off most though is when I would accelerate "slowly" in my truck then be stuck behind some a-hole that passed me as my cruising speed is usually faster. That's one reason I used to do it for a legitimate reason.

yeah, I don't usually pass on single lane roads unless I'm stuck behind someone driving under the speed limit and there's no cars in front of them.

but I take 2 highways to work every day... 95 is like 4-5 lanes, and the other highway I take is 3-4 lanes.

Where I live (Michigan) it's required by law. You must either move over or slow down.

What people apparently don't realize is that it's also required by law in Michigan to vacate the passing lane if you aren't passing.

Especially if have been on a two lane road stuck behind the slow person and then come to a two lane area and that person speeds up to stop you from passing them and then they slow back down once it goes back to two lanes.

Sounds simple but its true. (Well except for the 100%, I saw one Corvette driver who knew his penis was fine and occasionally let people pass him.) Also sometimes seen with Mustang and BMW drivers.

There are some folks on the road who simply can not let people go past them. It makes them mad and they have to block. Whenever I get my V10 RAM 3500 we'll see about that, in the meantime I let them act silly, and keep praying the cops get them. Which they never do.

Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Porshe pulled over with a cop behind it?
Know why? The cops know that the arrogant bastard would rather spend $10,000 on a lawyer and sue the police rather than spend $200 on a ticket. Thats why you see a lot more of the regular and cheap, beat up cars pulled over. Less likely they'll put up a fight with expensive lawyers.
You gotta remember something: Traffic tickets have nothing to do with law and order, they are a money making machine for the city.

Where was I? OH YES!
Next time you see an overpriced, piece of crap italian vehicle dont even fight with it. Just fall in next to a big truck and stay there, dont move.
I noticed many of you do this even when theres not a Ferarri nearby so we have the right attitude.
