Why do people sign their posts even though their name and icon is right next to it?

It's almost as obnoxious as people who have their little "thing." You know...like dennil had his songs. Others have a "thing" that they do at the end of every post to try and seem creative.

It the same reason people wear nametags - So they can look when they dont remember their own names!

Because we get into the habit of writing E-mails and professional letters and leaving a signature at the bottom seems second nature. It doesn't bother me when people don't sign a forum post, but it always strikes me as bad form when people don't bother to format an E-mail or a letter, and I guess the habit I have of signing everything else just got carried over.

Not anyone in particular. Lots of people do it. I figured as long as we were pointing out things people do in their posts that we don't understand, I might as well point that out. :D

Ive never signed anything, email, post, or whatnot. At the end of every email I send out, I send the line "Enquiring Gnomes Want To Mine", as I have for the past several years.

This thread makes me want to try signing it just once though, so.....

I sign with my real name so people know me as more than "TheBlondOne."

And I like to personalize the posts I write.

It is a matter of etiquette for me. To me, if I do not sign, it is like hanging up at the end of a conversation without saying the usual goodbye or similar sign-off. I have not signed a few posts here and there though.
