...when clearly they drive a vehicle that utilizes mcpherson strut assemblies on both front and rear of the car?

I know some vehicles may use a coil spring and shock or shock and leaf spring, but.most cars are all struts i believe.

Anyway, it is redundant imo to say you have bad shocks and struts when you need total susp replacement as your shock is part of the strut

Anyway, it bothers me hahah

I have seen misrefrncing cause confusion in a repair shop, i think some people say it thinking their shocks and struts are seperate, so thry may get ripped off not knowing what exactly they have

(Looking at you monroe commercials)

Most cars I've worked on are FWD cheap cars that you see running around everywhere and they basically all have struts in front and shocks in back.

Do you know what you're talking about?

EDIT: After re-reading your post I'm quite certain that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Disgusted people complain that the OP's Mom "shocks and struts" when she flops out her saggy titties and prances around the produce aisle of the local Generic Mart hoping for a hit.

I would suggest asking the people that say that, they would be in the best position to answer your question.

The Corvette Z06 uses leaf springs in the back. I don't have one though.

Why? Aren't there more important things in life to worry/care about other than some people with some cars that have struts on the rear of their car calling them shocks?

Or maybe you don't.......

Actually, I think you are confused. Many, if not most, cars with mcpherson struts in front also have struts in the rear with no shocks.

That's just not true. I've done plenty of suspension work on all sorts of cars and they almost all have had macpherson struts up front and shocks out back. These are mostly just run-of-the-mill FWD cars. I understand that a lot of fancier/newer cars have struts all around, but those aren't the people being targeted by the Monroe commercials that the OP is complaining about.

Yep. I barely know anything about cars, but I know this because I had to replace the *shocks and struts* in my car.

A shock absorber is merely a displacement damping unit in the suspension, and serves no other purpose. When this function is combined with actual structural support, it becomes a strut. The MacPherson strut is a special case where the strut is also the steering axis, and must be able to rotate along its long axis. Look at any picture of one and you will also see that if the strut is removed, the rest of the suspension parts will flop around wildly and the wheel will not only be able to move up and down, but will also be able to rotate about freely on the ball joint where the steering knuckle is attached to the control arm. In contrast, with a standard double wishbone suspension setup, removing the strut will usually leave a perfectly usable, if completely underdampened suspension.

FYI, when a strut type suspension is used in the rear of the car where it is not necessary to turn the wheel for steering purposes, this simplifies the strut as it doesn't need to be designed to rotate. This is known as a chapman strut.
