Why do people say lets kick...

Wtf did 'lets kick some tail' come from? 1. Thats gotta be animal abuse 2. Thats just weird 3. HTF are you suppose to kick a tail? Do have any idea how hard that would be? Especially since a tail can move so easily, but if you kick some ass, well then, thats a lot easier considering you can't really wave around your ass like you can your tail. Nonetheless, where did these phrases come from anyways? Kick ass? Kick tail? It's all stupid, and I don't get why we say that, if I kick ones ass, I didn't necessarily, win, I could end up getting pummeled to death a few seconds later...

The question isn't what it's intended meaning, but simply WHY. It's so stupid and when you try making sense of it, it just doesn't make sense unless you have prior knowledge.
