Why do people say "buh-bye"?

Usually when talking on the phone. Why not say "goodbye" or simply "bye"? What purpose does "buh" serve?

It's a smart-ell-icky way to say buy.. For instance, someone makes a remark that's sure fire to get them banned. Someone else says 'buh-buy'.

Same could be said to they guy who just got himself kicked out of the bar kind of as a jeer to rub salt in the wound essentially.. "Buh-buy".

Every time I talk to my grandfather on the phone (or he talks to anyone else on the phone) he always ends the conversation by saying mmmmmmmmmbye.

Short for bye-bye, which is more friendly than bye, but when you don't really need to say good bye cause you don't really care if their bye is good.
