And then pretend they know more than others? This annoys me very much

Because the internets are full of empty headed and pompous search engine windbags called googtrogstm with nothing more constructive to do in their xenophobic lives.

Because IT'S THE INTERNET where ANYONE CAN BE GOD! Seriously though to know exactly in what sense you mean this you will have to give an example.

Fucking fantastic thank you!

I've heard the Bertrand Russell quote before and others like it ("The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along" etc etc) but never heard of this actually sociologically defined and studied.

Into my sig it goes :)

Yeah, it's pretty cool stuff.

I think the best application of it was in the Casiotech drawings thread.

Kids now days were raised by single moms that always told them how great they are. In Little League (if they went outside to play) everyone gets a trophy and no one loses. Everyone is great.
This has caused a whole generation to become egocentric and think that they are smarter/more important than they really are.

I know where you're coming from. I know all (probably more than anyone else here) about people commenting about stuff they know nothing about.
Damn good thing I have paradox-absorbing crumple zones.
