mine depends on my mood. sometimes i like mine with the skins, a little bit of texture, sometimes i like them peeled and smooooooth.

good both ways, if you ask me.
 
if they're red (russett or something) then we always bake and season them and then cut them up leaving the skin. For mashed potatoes though, the skin has a different texture and makes it clumpy (but in a different way from peeling them and not mashing them all the way). People don't really care about the nutritional value of a potatoe, if it fills them up and has plenty of carbs, everything else is kinda irrelevant.
