Why do people own dogs?

Unless you need it for work, (ex. K-9, bomb sniffers, and guide dogs) or something, I see no purpose to owning a dog. They are stupid, ugly, and usually the owners are of a certain "persuasion". I see alot of these in the suburbs barking at me, and I am just annoyed by them.

I can understand why one would want a big German Shephard (smart, and protective), and I fall into this camp myself. But why would you want to essentially chop your income in half and leave your house all dirty and smelly? Not to mention the early morning walks and the poo you have to pickup!

'Cause my dog is cool as shit, makes me smile all the time, even when I'm insanely pissed off. She's the only female that never gets mad at me.

Feeding her, playing with her, and taking her for walks is a small price to pay.
