Why do people name their kids after cars?

I'm going to name my kid 300SL. Lets see the bastards in the IRS figure out how to put that one in thier system.

um.... i think those are hooker names... or at least porn stars... not children.... if those are children's names --> shens on the parents!!!!!!!!!!

That's a joke, right? Mercedes was a girl's name long before there were cars. (And the car was named after a girl who had that name.) Portia, too, though the "Porsche" that the cars are named after is a last name.

Enzo Ferrari
Ferruccio Lamborghini
Henry Ford

To name a few that come to the top of my mind... You get the point...

Ooops--before I wrote my response, I didn't even notice that he'd written A"Lexus" (note the 'A'). That goes all the way back to ancient Greece.

So, yes, you caught it--all three have been names from long, long before internal combustion engines were invented.
