I was curious and wondering what peoples opinions are on why people make the decisioncs that they do.

Short-term gain over long-term?

In the Subway restaurants, they have wallpaper of how the subways used to look waaaaay back. They had upholstered couches, fancy lamps...

All that would last 3 seconds on a subway system today. People would destroy and steal for the short-term gain/thrill, even though it would be great to have nice subway trains...

They move pretty fast too. I was surprised.

Beast - I think neffing is a constant... much like the gravitational pull of the moon.

hmm... does that have anything to do with astronomy? cuz if so, i have no clue what your talking about :) and if the gravitational pull of the moon is 1/6 of the earth, does a human weigh exactly 1/6 of his/her weight in relation to what the weight is on earth?

Woosh! That's the sound of this thread going over my head. How the heck did we go from people and their decisions, to Subway and the moon? I gotta go to bed....

Personally, I believe in determinism. I believe all of our actions are determined by physical factors and past events, and people have no 'free will'.

That's just MY belief, I in no way try to force that view on others. I don't discount the possibility of free will, but I find it extremely doubtful.

If you are interested in why I believe that way, read Holbach's "The Illusion of Free Will" and possibly Smart's "Sensations and Brain Processes" as well.
