Why do people make fun of the firewall built into WinXP?

I see a lot of people make fun of it but I can't find anyone that's given a good reason other than it's for dumber computer users. So someone enlighten me. Tell me why it's so horrible.

Just for context we're going to be talking about a typical home computer, not a machine that is being used as a firewall for an entire corporate network.

it doesn't block outgoing traffic like most sw firewalls allow you to.

edit: i'm not saying this is why ppl make fun of it. just listing a reason for its inadequecy.

I that really a huge deal? How often does one need protection from the inside?

well a lot of ppl are behind a router so they don't really need much protection from the outside either.

In the event that you did get a trojan or something, the executable would need permission from the FW to access the Internet.

There is a networking forum.

It causes more problems than it solves.

:D

Yes, but no one ever looks into that forum.

The firewall sucks because you can't play games. Thats a good enough reason for anyone!

How does the firewall hinder your ability to play games?

No kidding, I've been using it for 2.5 years and havent had a problem with a game at all.

Just a side note.. I tried ZoneAlarm about 6 weeks ago. The Zone Alarm service was using about 6-10% CPU when doing any internet transfers, and the systray application was also using about 3-4% CPU constantly. Not to mention about 10-12megs ram all the time.
