Why do people love "watching" sports?

Never in my life, I felt entertained watching sports. Sure they were few moments when ingenious players or teamplays in certain sports got my attention. I'm not sure how people associate themselves to the certain team or player. I'd understand it if u personally knew the player, worked or bonded with the player or team in personal life. But, I just dont understand how people become the hardcore fans of certain team or player because they are from the same city, school and etc. Olympics or the worldcup is different story though..

I think it has to be something done to you when you are a child. I grew up watching football with my family and went to all of the home Tennessee games from age 5 to age 18 or so.

I agree about the World Cup. I never watched soccer until going to Europe a for a couple months during the world cup. I got a chance to go to Fan Fest in Berlin and watch the 3rd place Germany vs. Portugal game. Probably the most fun I've ever had in my life.

However I still like to watch sports and think you suck.

I find watching sports on TV to be boring. How many times can you watch a guy run down a field and throw a ball? I agree about the World Cup or Olympics being different-- they are more important events with national pride at stake.

how do u pick "your team?"

Whatever team you happen to like. There is no formal way to pick your team.

that's what i dont understand. how does one feel the attraction to a certain team?

most of the time sports are boring on TV. I usually go for the booze, food, and occasional phenominal atheletic plays.

I enjoy watching people watch sports.

NEVER mess with the video system especially during a big game. People think insurgents are violent! :p

Put down the keyboard and mouse and go watch an NFL game in the stadium. Most fun you will have. Why are stupid people asking this type of question when people have been watching sports for ages? Put down the D&D dice and keyboard.

Where do you live? Go live in a city with a major sports team that actually gets behind their team and you might begin to experience the magic and fun in following them.

What I like about it is there is no script. It's just individuals performing for a common goal as a team. Go to a game once or twice...you'll begin to appreciate the intricacies of the game more

If you were in Italy when they won the World Cup this year you'd understand...not that I was there but I was watching it and it is a huge huge deal to almost the entire country.

Edit-I lived in Rochester, NY in the late 1980s-early 1990s when the Bills were dominating the AFC and went to 4 straight Superbowls. Tell me that town wasn't all about the Bills. It was great actually. I became a Bills fan and have been ever since...it's been a rough 12 years since. BTW-Even though I live in San Diego, I'm still a Bills fan. That will never change. :)

It's a hobby that gives millions of people an excuse for sitting around doing nothing but eating, drinking, and getting fat.

Fixed it for you.

are you retarded? You can pick a team because of where you live, where you grow up, who you watched growing up, the teams playing style, a certain player on the team beign your favorite, what fvcking color the jersey is. Damn, it could be anything.
