is it worth the extra $ to get a flat screen as oppose to regular not-so-flat screens?

Sure, the images look more realistic. Just about any good one ya look at now will be flat or very close to.

The quality on flat screens is usually much greater than the screens on regular monitors. Go to a CompUSA or BestBuy or other B & M store and check out the difference.

I haven't found perfectly flat CRT monitors to look better except when glare is a problem, but dont' be surprised if the average flat monitor is better than the others because they're the more expensive models.

The best monitor I ever saw was the ancient Zenith Flat Tension, which had such high contrast that images looked like they were on printed paper. I haven't seen anything as good since, CRT or LCD.

At work, I used to have a Philips 17" 107<some letter> non-flat monitor, while my room mate had a somewhat-newer Philips 17" 107<some other letter> flat one. The flat one was sharper, but I found my monitor easier on the eyes. Being a programmer, and partially color-blind, I don't care much for color quality, only about text.

Now I have a 21" flat monitor. Is better.

I was wondering the same thing, until I used one. Now I'll never go back.

My monitor was one of the best upgrades I've ever done.

I have used perfectly flat monitors since I got a Zenith FTM in 1985. I do so because:

1. Less reflection

2. Clearer and more accurate image

3. The picture looks the same even from different angles.

4. Less eye strain because of #1 above.

Heard something like that. It's difficult to go from my flatscreen at home to my near flat at work. Spend the extra money.

my eyes feel much more comfortable when looking at the flat screen.

as most of us have to stay in front of the computer for long period, we have to treat our eyes better.

Well, when I was in stores or at a friends place looking at their flat screens... I never really noticed anything. Wasn't a big deal to me at first...

Then I bought my first one, and after staring at it for 30 minutes. You'll never ever go back. I can promise you that. I lent my old one to a friend, and when I saw it again... I didn't know how I lived with that thing... damn fishbowls...
