why do people insist on ruining a good game?

I was VERY happy when CS 1.6 came out....for a total of about 2 days, everybody was playing with what skill they had. Now, no sooner than a week after its release, everybody and their mothers is hacking again :(:(

I think steam should quickly find the Won ID's of those hacking and do a perma-ban on all of steam. That'll teach hackers (especially after most of them go and spend 29.99 on a new cd key :D)

p.s. - take the anonymous poll (my own research purposes, please dont lie)

i've never hacked CS. i have used daox so that i can add my valuable insights to this forum while playing daoc, though. technically i could do it with the other computer at this desk but that seems rather inellegant.

It is kinda sad to think that people enjoy playing competitive games for the challenge/competition, yet they resort to cheating just to win. Why even bother playing if you are going to cheat? Same goes for other games, not just CS but games like WC3, Starcraft, etc.

Cheating in multi player games is lame. Only reason for it would be among friends as a joke, but not when playing online seriously.

I have hacked single player games to make them possible, or to be able to skip the boring parts, but I don't do so in multi player games.

I've never played it, but my guess would be that the "hackers" are people with poor social skills and few friends, and they do it to give themselves a sense of power. They aren't interested in competition, they just want to sit in their basement and laugh to themselves about how they "rule".

well i'm not too sure about hacks already. if anything it's just a lot of extreme luck with those new noobish guns. i stopped at a lan this past weekened and saw a few people complaining about hackers, so i just ran a quick search to see what i could find... and there wasen't much out there. mind showing us that there is infact a 1.6 hack?

I picked option 2, because a long time ago, when OGC was fricken hugely rampant, I ran it for a period of a week to see what exactly it did and what advantages it gave others in the game.

Personally, I need to figure out what hacks people are running now, so I can install them on a machine and play back demos. Basically you record a demo of whoever you think is cheating and then you play it back with cheats turned on / off and you can very easily tell if that person is cheating. I havn't bothered doing this yet, though.

There is seriously way too fricken many cheaters out there right now, it is really sad.

I was playing yesterday with someone named "Omg I'm hacking". He didn't try to hide it, he didn't bother denying it, he thought it was a joke. He wasn't as bad as some, he admitted he was only using wallhacks and no aiming adjustments of any sort. Which didn't make him that good, he knew where others were, but his aim was pretty bad so we could still beat him. At first I thought he used the name because people always called him a hacker or whatever, but he sealed his fate when he blatently shot a CT hiding underneath one of those tiny bridges in inferno. You know, those little bridges near bomb site B, a CT was crouched underneath one and he ran up to the bridge and fired into the guys head from above.

I wish someone would make an anti-hack hack. So that when someone has a wallhack on, I don't show up as visible. Also, when they try auto-aim, it can't target on me. That would be sweet.

----------

Edit: What some friends of mine do now, to determine hackers, is this. There is a site where you can search on people's wonids and find out all their info. Basically you get their wonid from the server you're on and search on this website. If it comes up saying they are cal-i, then you know they probably arn't hacking or are VERY stupid. If a Cal-i (cal-m and calwhatever also) person hacks and gets caught (even on a pub server), their entire clan can be banned from the league. This is, in effect, risking 3+ years worth of work on a pub game. So if you check and they are cal-i, it is likely they are just insanely good at the game. If you check, and they arn't cal-i or any other league, it is very likely they are nobodies and they are hacking, since there is very little risk in them getting caught.

return to castle wolfenstein has a anti-hack program (punk buster) that sists on both the client and server side of the code.

it also shows in the join game screen which games are running punk buster and which aren't.

Cheating is lame on these games since you're only pretending you're good to strangers you'll never in fact meet.

Yeah, so I was playing SimCity 4 the other day and I terraformed this enormous mountain. I then leveled in off into a butte, populated it densly with wild animals, and let loose some havoc in the form of a giant robot. There is nothing as funny as a herd of giraffes hurdling themselves over the edge like lemmings. :D

The only "hack" I use is LANning.
It makes for some hilarious moments in CS ;)

But I never used skill enhancing hacks.

I agree they should ban wonID's of confirmed hackers.

I hacked for a few days once just because I was bored. I don't see why so many people do it. It's extremely boring after a few laughs and being kicked from a few servers.

<---too good to hack, ahahaha :D

But seriously, hacking should be dealt with swiftly. Like a virus that causes the computer to crash whenever they try loading a hack up.
Try playing in some CAL-i servers...the admin is usually in those, and even if they are hacking, they'll still die to the good people.

Back in my C64 days I had some cool hacking tools.. Used to get MCI codes, CC Numbers and such (using a 1200 baud modem)... But those days are over. I never really learned "real hacking" on the PC, but enough to have a little fun ;)

Never hacked, and I've gotten pretty good without hacking (but the damn High ping brought by the Dial-up connection is shafting me pretty bad :|). I hate hackers that fux0r up a good game, such as CS. But then again, they are probably just some kiddies with no skills who wants to take a shortcut, therefore they can't comprehend the dignity of playing a good game.
