Why do people have more kids if they can't afford the ones they have?

All the articles about families suffering from food stamp cuts are always large multichildren families.

Ie one example is this lady with 4 kids, ages 12,8,3 and 1 year old.

Some have more. If it is hard to manage with one why not just stick to one child? You will give him a much better chance to do better in life.

I always wondered the same thing. Especially in countries where they literally have nothing. By continually having children you continually have people who are going to have nothing and keep procreating back into the same environment. Not saying at all that the poor shouldn't have kids but if you can't afford one, why have 5 or 6.

so #1 the more kids, the more tax rebates and welfare programs and more $$ you can get, some do it on purpose.

some it's just cultural to do so.

seen the movie idiocracy? it's like the explanation in the first 5 minutes of the movie.

low-class individuals and familes think of today. upper class individuals and families think of tomorrow.

it's been pretty well "proven" that families with 1 or 2 kids tend to do better, and families that the parents stay together do as well.

So are we assuming she just doesn't work or hasn't suffered any employment setbacks like millions of others or does the article actually clarify that point?

A lot of these people are low wage workers, not MIT grads who lost their job working high paying jobs.

Typically they are highschool grads or dropouts with skill sets that only open up minimum wage jobs.

5 kids making 8 bucks an hour makes no sense but they seem to keep popping them out when what they earn barely covers a one child family.

Why not get some kind of contraception?

Cause they are animals and fucking lazy.

I'm fine with those that had 3+ kids and were productive members of society beforehand and fell on hard times.

That said, there are a vast number of people born into poverty, born into the social support system that know you have to reproduce to get more benefits. A friend's daughter did just that.

They are offered free birth control... and in the case of our friend's daughter, the State told her that after four kids they would not pay a bonus to her for any more... so the state offered to pay to have her tubes tied and she took it thankfully.

Because, contrary to what so many people seem to believe, having children is not an economical decision that is reached via the medium of spreadsheets and mathematics.

Well I'll say it if you won't, poor people should not have kids.

Nonetheless, there is plenty of evidence that children with two married parents are in a much better economical situation than single-parent, female headed families.

The fact is that many people plan to have children and they plan to provide for those children.

Because they are profoundly stupid and don't give a fuck. Everything about their life is one of catering to immediate impulses. From eating trash constantly to not bothering to study for tests (hence the dropout rates, for example), a lot of people's lives consist of nothing that was the result of any long-term goal whatsoever.

No, where I live it's just a bigger check. There is no financial downside.

More kids = bigger checks, more freebies from taxpayers.

There were a few threads in this forum about guys that knocked up not one, not two, not three, but several women and had over ten (10) kids with those loose women and of course, no child support whatsoever. Guess who will end up to pick up the heavy tabs?

Here is one prime example: loser (33 years old, 30 kids with 11 different women, no child support because of his minimum job = http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/18/desmond-hatchett-30-kids_n_1528850.html

15 kids and somebody gotta pay = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBqjZ0KZCa0

You guys/gals need to work harder so your taxes can support those youngins.

I was on public transportation once in LA (something most people vow never to do, even as a last resort, since our system here blows worse than anything)... my car was in the shop or something... so anyway, these two school girls get on, probably around age 14 or so.

I overhear the conversation, and it's all about their goals in life, which pretty much amounted to:

"I'ma get my babies, get my check, get my own place, have my own stuff."
"Me too."

I realized this is the message these two had gotten from virtually *everyone* in their lives- their parent (s?), their teachers, whatever rotten politicians their families probably worship at the altar of... just have your babies and get your check, A.S.A.P.

I didn't feel malice or anything toward the girls, I really couldn't blame them. That's the outlook every so-called 'authority figure' in their lives had probably set out for them. Having an education for anything like the prospect of a life spent working/creating something/being productive/earning a living, providing for a family once you're old enough and responsible enough... none of that was probably ever even presented to them as a possibility.

I don't blame the people that take advantage of the 'check' that comes just from pumping out some babies that grow up never knowing anything else- I blame the criminally insane bureaucrat assholes that gleefully sentence generation after generation of such people to grinding poverty and being a drain on society- for their own power and votes. Thats what its really mostly about, not any care for the people who's lives are ruined.

She's probably going to have tons of kids before it's all said and done; they'll just be furry and four legged.
