I was on public transportation once in LA (something most people vow never to do, even as a last resort, since our system here blows worse than anything)... my car was in the shop or something... so anyway, these two school girls get on, probably around age 14 or so.
I overhear the conversation, and it's all about their goals in life, which pretty much amounted to:
"I'ma get my babies, get my check, get my own place, have my own stuff."
"Me too."
I realized this is the message these two had gotten from virtually *everyone* in their lives- their parent (s?), their teachers, whatever rotten politicians their families probably worship at the altar of... just have your babies and get your check, A.S.A.P.
I didn't feel malice or anything toward the girls, I really couldn't blame them. That's the outlook every so-called 'authority figure' in their lives had probably set out for them. Having an education for anything like the prospect of a life spent working/creating something/being productive/earning a living, providing for a family once you're old enough and responsible enough... none of that was probably ever even presented to them as a possibility.
I don't blame the people that take advantage of the 'check' that comes just from pumping out some babies that grow up never knowing anything else- I blame the criminally insane bureaucrat assholes that gleefully sentence generation after generation of such people to grinding poverty and being a drain on society- for their own power and votes. Thats what its really mostly about, not any care for the people who's lives are ruined.
