Annoying isn't it :)

I disagree, you are most definitely not the shit. Being a moderator on a nerd message board does not make you cool. Besides, I was 4 times more productive last week when I was banned.

Because those who hype their own greatness reek of some underlying self esteem problem. It sounds like they are always trying to make up for something. I respect the guy who has several small but notable achievements but never talks about them more than I respect the guy who has several huge achievements but can't keep his mouth shut about them.

Humility is far more attractive than being a cocky prick.

You know when you're the best? When everyone BUT you says it. If you have to say it, all that means is you have something to prove.

Yup. IOW, people don't hate people who "Back their Shit up", they just hate "Shit". "Shit" smells and most people do not enjoy it.

Nah I don't think what Amused was saying. Maybe amused can clear it up for us? I'm going to have to also disagree with you Sandorski. People definitely hate on people that back their shit up. I just don't get why, if you don't want to hear it, become better then that person at the competition/matter in question.

Then your reading comprehension sucks. Sandorski got it right in his second post.

Please repeat my sentence and explain to me what I said.

Proving you're the best and running around crowing about being the best are two entirely different things. The later is NEVER a good thing.

In professional sports it can be. Your teammates can feed off a your confidence. It's the mental edge. If your arrogance can affect some of the weaker minded players on the other team, you've already scored an advantage.

Thats probably about the only positive thing that you could get out of it, really. in the vast majority of times, it is done with a fair dose of insult to other players, competitors and whatnot IMO. Never seen a such thing as clean, innocuous brag without putting down others in the process deliberately or subtly.

I think our upbringing has a lot to do with it, seeing how most cultures value humility as a fine virtue to be pursued, though to a varying degree. To me, act of pompous self-promoting or display of inflated ego comes across as the person being either selfish and self-serving, or just trying to cover up his weak mentality.
