All intellectualism is pseudo as words don't mean crap beyond describing actual things in reality. Life could be said to be meaningless but we make up words for the hell of it. I remember randomly selecting this book with no prior knowledge of the author(blind buy) and it blew my mind at the time

In my opinion a good broad vocabulary reflects on one's intellectual well being. But that goes without saying using complex words all the time makes you sound like a smart ass or something and I can't stand that.

I find woman to have a very broad vocabulary. My mom for example can use words I never even heard her use before just out of the blue. I'm like WTF does that mean? LMAO!

Words do far more than you imply. Your mind is confined to words and meanings. Nuance and subtlety are the shades which keep the world from being black and white. Think not? Imagine trying to explain modern physics to the Babylonians- in their own language.

I don't really hate on Oprah--I think she does good work for people--but I find that the people she endorses, through admittedly good intent, she really only does so because she sees more marketing potential in those individuals than substance. Ideas, habits, people whose advice can perhaps make you feel better about yourself mentally or physically, if only for short bursts of time and with never any measurable effect.

I think she has become highly engaged in improvement via placebo. And hey, if it works for people in the way that works for them, fine. But from Oz to Chopra, she really gets into some quick-fix, quick buck, snake oil solutions.

The main criticism is in his using Scientific terms to conflate and mysticize Philosophical/Spiritual ideas. Pretty much turning his words into a mumbo jumbo of nonsense.

HAHA That's classic. Let me try my hand at the fine art of BS vocabulary.

The whimsical, a mere coincidence in the mind's eye was nothing short of a miracle of divine interpretation.

BAHAHAHA! :D

Immediately brings to mind the time he tried to square off against Harris and Shermer. At least Deepak acquitted himself better than Jean Houston, who sounded like she was having an LSD flashback or something.

If you think all intellectualism is pseudo like OP, by all means watch this and you should get a feel for how much crap that is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU6TkfCGlX8

It's easy to spot the woo woo if you try.

I always thought that people who used unnecessarily complex vocabulary were just being pretentious pricks... until I read David Foster Wallace's books. The guy was a genius with words.
