Why do people hate basketball players so much?

Like Kobe Bryant for instance. Even before he tried for doing the deed in CO, people hated him. Why all the hate?

People hate #1.

People hate when people are successful for what they consider unimportant or easy tasks.

In essence, jealousy.

It may have started with jealousy, but he's not hated because he's a BBall player. He's hated because the BBall opened up so many opportunities for him, and what's he ever done? The best he could do was adultery.

I just hate professional athletes. I'm bitter about how badly I suck at sports while people in the world that probably couldn't correctly sack my groceries if I had them at gunpoint, get paid a hojillion dollars a year (and are practically treated like national heroes), to swing pieces of wood and throw balls around.

Because we're tired of hearing multi-millionaires complaining how they don't make enough and saying stuff like "I've got a family to feed" (Sprewell)

oh...and because they are black

Just kidding! it's just jokes!

18 years old, right out of H.S and making multi-million dollars playing ball. I would be jealous.

Some people have it easy and others, well work 8, 10, or 12 hours a day making crap.

the majority of them are overpaid, whiners. They dont care what role model they set and think that playing a game for huge sums of $$$ makes life a free for all.

I hate Kobe for destroying the Lakers team. Some people might hate him for not being a team player.

The sad thing is, it doesn't matter how much good people do in their communities, people will still hate them. I bet a lot of people hate Shaq and Alonzo Mourning, yet both have done more for their communities than almost any of the people who hate them.

I wouldn't hate them if most of them weren't so incredibly unappreciative of their situation. It happens in all professional sports, but it seems to happen more among NBA players.

It's all about the money now.

Shaq is an interesting example. There aren't too many people who hate Shaq as a person because he's always been a big jolly fellow. I've encountered many who hate Shaq because he's huge and can push people around on the basketball court and can't shoot free throws, but never have I heard someone criticize him as a person.

So in essence, Shaq as person = liked. Shaq as basketball player = hated

yea, kobe is a money man, only in it for the money. he doesnt do jack sh;t outside of playing bball, and adultery.

you get people like Mourning who give back so damn much. and LeBron could definately be making more money if he wanted to, but he wants to play for his home team.

don't they have maximum contracts now? A player like Lebron will get a maximum contract no matter where he goes, so "getting a lot more somewhere else" isn't necessarily true. He has plenty either way... he could play for free and still be uber-rich with his endorsement deals

Outside of Indiana, it's not PC anymore to be racist. But you can still hate basketball players, rap music, etc. Same sh!t, different day.
