Why do people get so offended when it comes to the price of their goods?

I've been looking for a pair of headphones over at another forum. Someone sent me an offer that was more than I wanted to pay and my reply was the following:

Thanks for the offer... Unfortunately right now the max i'm willing to spend is around $75-80 shipped. If you can come down LMK, if not, no worries.

Thanks again!

I swear their reply was if I had murdered their first born....

Why are people so sensitive about this stuff?

Hard up for cash.

It's all a game...if they blow their top that means you've got them.

many people fail to realize that used electronics are worth less, most of the time, than one that is brand new without considering blue book value, or even the average used selling price.

Frankly, my guidelines on used electronics that are not rare is 25% off MSRP used for 1 year in mint condition, but within warranty and warranty is transferable. 30% off MSRP if warranty is not transferable. 40% off MSRP after 2 years in mint condition.

Or they could just think his offer is unreasonable. :Q

Very true, but very bad to know. I sold my old monitor for what it was really worth, but probably could have gotten maybe 50% more from clueless people.

Yeah, typically people can get away with that on places like craigslist, but for sites like audiogon, not so much :)

I used to get that sometimes on my Buy It Now auctions. Usually my prices are fair and based on what the high average is for the BIN...giving someone that wants it outright a chance to get it right away or take a chance and go for bidding.

Every once in a while someone will email and say I am asking way too high a price, but they can paypal me 30-80% of my BIN price (shipping usually to be included) and then add some lame story how they need it as a replacement TODAY (thus shipped overnight on my dime) or that they just felt like helping me out or something equally lame as if we were long lost friends.

So far I am about 9/10 auctions that go to bidding, end higher than my buy it now...and then you get some that ask since it went higher than the buy it now shouldn't shipping be included or could I just sell it for the buy it now price but that's another story.

Almost anyway I answer either of the above situations I get back a flaming mail as if I was ripping them off. To those that win my auctions and then decide not to pay I go through the ebay process...most of the time they are willing to pay though.

I don't understand the BIN price (I don't ebay), but why would you bid higher if you could truly just "buy it now"? Or does the BIN price get nullified when bids exceed it?

Two reasons:
1.) The average person on eBay is not too intelligent (I've heard several times of people paying a fair amount more for a common item than the price they would pay in a local store).
2.) People "snipe" and have a program set to automatically bid on the item just before the auction ends, and so if someone drives up the price it'll still automatically bid. This last part I'm not entirely sure on since I would think you could set it to not bid higher than a certain amount, but I don't know as I don't really use eBay.

Oh, and OP, if its the forum I think it might very well be, then yeah, I haven't had the best experience with their FS/T forum. I see quite a few things that people try to sell for more money than you can get it pretty easily for new, by saying that it saves you time burning it in (even though they've only had it for 20 hours or something).

Yeah people cant face the fact that what they bought a couple weeks ago at full price is not worth half of what they payed for it. not just because its used but because new tech came out.
What really bugs me is people asking for items NIB and expecting to pay a whole lot less then current retail - first off if you want it new in box buy one retail, secondly don't expect people to magically buy items you want so they can sell them back to you and loose money. There are some instances where you get lucky and someone just wants to get rid of it but its not common.

It gets nullified once bidding begins. You basically agree to the BIN price, or gamble and hope no one pushes it higher when you bid.

Bear with me just this once again, so if you are about to bid for the first time and there have been other bids which pushed the bids beyond the BIN price, you can't just click "By it now" and sidestep the bidding process?
