Why do people get LCDs from newegg when they don't replace less than 8 pixels?

Because not everybody wants a Dell LCD? The 2001fp/2005fpw are not the only LCD monitors in the world, and most of their other models are pretty lousy.

Even Dell only has a, what, 21-day return policy? If the monitor develops dead/stuck pixels after that, you still need 7 or 8 or whatever for an RMA.

Is it common for dead pixels to appear after the first 21 days?

I have a LCD from '99 that has roughly 1/8 the screen of deal pixels. Remarkably it had none until right after the warranty period. One reason I'm still a CRT fan. My princeton CGA from 81' still works.

How frequent are dead pixel problems? I've never heard people talking about it with their laptops, and aren't those lcds basically the same? I've had two laptops and never had a problem with pixel wierdness.

I believe Dell's policy is that if you have dead pixels (or any other problems with the monitor) within 21 days you can get a refund or exchange it for a brand new one. After this period, you can still exchange it for any problems, but you'll get a refurbed monitor instead of a new one as a replacement.

Given their are over 300 LCDs and over a 100 laptops where I work, and only 8 of them have had and serious issues, I wouldn't say so. And they were all (the 8) the same brand.

What brand? 😛

What does a dead pixel look like anyway? Does it have a wrong color or a lack of color? now that I look closer at my laptop monitor I see small areas that aren't very bright. Are these dead pixels? I didn't really even notice until I looked for them. (I tried cleaning the LCD first too).

If somethings wrong you send it back to the manufacturer not newegg. More of them have better amount of dead pixels policys.

Doesn't Dell sell other brands?

Hardly. I ordered mine from Dell the Wed before Thanksgiving. I got it Monday. Take off the holiday, and Sunday, and thats a very good turn around time.

Dell also lets you return for as low as one dead pixel, just depends on who you talk to.
