Why do people get banned for posting "in before lock"? I don't get that.

Yea, I know it's a nef post, but people can recognize a thread that's headed for jail and are just stating that...

What is the crime? Does that offend people when you do that?

Sorry, but that I just don't get.

Whitedog,

In the past, we have been inundated by literally hundreds of posts that were bumped by idiots saying "In before the lock" and similar meaningless comments. The clutter of idiotic posts by nattering nitwits trying to up their post count by smarting off with this phrase became a major annoyance.

it makes no sense. Its a way to say that you've seen the thread and you think that its going to hell.

Mods find it not only Nef'ing, but offensive. A long time ago people used to post that crap all the time when they knew a thread was fixing to get the lockdown.

im surmising that its beucase when they make said post it bumps an "illegal" thread back to the top thus pushing out the worthwhile threads...

*3 posts all made at once...heh*

I'm not really sure either but I'm glad they do. That before lock stuff is stupid. Maybe the thread wouldn't get locked and just die if everyone didn't pile in and keep it bumped with those posts. :)

In the old days, you would get 30-40 IB TL bumps in each thread. And about 1/2 of the threads in the main hotdeals page were these threads. It was a big waste of bandwidth.

perhaps if they just deleted (some)threads instead of locking them it would make the forum cleaner.. and would completely stop the unnecessary neffing about "before the lock" crap..

Whatever. :p hehe

I suppose I could see it that way, I guess I wasn't around when it got that bad... Then again, most people probably need a weeks vacation from here at one time or another... It's probably "socially healthy" hehe ;)

Whitedog, I asked this one. The reply I got was that the mods want to allow people to see what kind of thread gets locked and what kind doesn't. By allowing the viewing of examples, they hope to thwart further nef posts.

Isla.. I had a similar sig and took it out for a fear that something might happen to my record here. (Warnings, whatever you might want to call it). I like to play it on the safe side :(

Anyway, I think it's better to be in fear of doing something wrong than having a bunch of jerks post meaningless crap all the time. I guess that's what makes these forums what they are.

*runs and hides from the mod*

I would say what are you gonna do about it, but I learned what you do about a month ago. So now I will be content in hiding from you peacefully, so that my banning will be delayed till the next time I screw up.

BTW, posting about "that phrase" got me banned the first time, mocking the mod got me banned #2. :p

LOL@ shr00m! That had to be the biggest idiotic post I've ever seen. I mean the TOPIC of this thread is about exactly what he did! hehehehe

This one was a classic example of the give an inch and they'll take a mile syndrome. It was particularly bad in Ferengi Central. You'd see a thread with a 100 posts, open it thinking it was a heated discussion, and 80 of them would be twerps saying the phrase.

Geekish,

Sometimes I think the mods are extra witty just so members will use it in their sigs.:D

Russ, NCNE

Actually, some of us Mods must be extra witty to make up for the half-wits among us. ;)

Mods are definitely witty. They are our cyber celebrities in a way. :Q

Thanks Adul, you are a good member, despite what the Mean Mod says.

I just question why they have to make their presence felt so much? Is it necessary to ban each member with a smart alecky remark?

I mean, a referee in a basketball game or something wouldn't eject a player and then say something like, ALL YOUR GAME ARE BELONG TO US or something..Although that would so totally rule.

And I have to say I find posts that link to NEFFING.com and posts that say nothing but ALL YOUR WHATEVER ARE BELONG TO US considerably more annoying than I BTL..

In before the Ny-Quil kicks in. I have an awful sinus infection. Man, this stuff conks me out... :disgust:

Whitedog, it was just one of those things that had to be seen to be believed. You think neffing in OT is bad, you should have seen some of the crap that was going down.

Wow, I didn't know you could get banned for doing this. Why don't you Mods write a forum FAQ and post it once a month?

Dumb move shr00m, but I haven't laughed like that from a post in years.

Hey cool... some good responses! :) thanks guys/mods...

I do agree with Muadib that there should be some kind of easy way to look up AT Forum Netiquette FAQ and Rules..

I say add a Tab to the top of top of the page that says Rules. In it have a list of Ban words/phrases, reason they ARE ban words/phrases... I general description of WHAT Kind of Threads get locked, and why...etc...

Just general AT Forum Netiquette rules and stuff.. it would be useful to a Lot of people that might get a vacation for something trivial they didn't know about. PLUS, it might reduce the number of Locked threads.. Also, it might keep the Mods on the same page as when to warrant a suspend/ban. I'd venture to say there has been More than one case where someone got suspended/banned for something someone else did numerous times without anyone batting an eye? I've seen it, and it kind of bothered me a bit. :(
