Why do people dislike Americans?

Well? Why do they? Is it because the vast majority of the world views them as warmongerers; as a morally corrupt society that cares nothing for the environment or for other countries?

I know a lot of people up here in Canada see Americans as rather arrogant, but maybe that's cause they are in comparison to Canada. They have to be because they're a world power and can't afford to be weak. Canada itself has done much more in the world than other countries with its population, though. Economically or otherwise, I think we make a pretty good team. Culturally there isn't much difference between us at all! I've been to the states and at least in the North the people are practically the same.

So it makes me wonder: What gets people so pissed off about Americans and yet those same people love us Canadians? My uncle and family went down to the Domican Republic recently, where people from other countries such as Great Britain, Germany, and a couple families from the US were also on vacation. For some reason the people working at the hotel there and the people on vacation there couldn't stand the Americans. They were too "snobbish". It makes me wonder if the people there saw them as snobbish because of the way they acted or because they were known to be Americans.

Although I often don't agree with your policies and sometimes agree that you can be overly arrogant, I have to commend you for stepping up to the plate and doing what no other country had the guts to do (I also commend the countries helping you out.. UK and company). I only regret that Canada didn't decide to take a more active role, but that's our PM for ya.

We ARE arrogant bastards and we believe we have the right to govern the world as we are by the far the strongest nation economically and militarily. However, I believe if any other country had the similar priveleges and advantages as the U.S., they would be doing the exact same thing. I hate it when another tries to take the moral high ground route.

That is why I do not participate in the hate Canada, France, etc etc. I can understand why they act the way they do, just as why the U.S. acts the way it does. Don't have to like it or agree, but I can understand.

Perhaps is it because we have made more progress in our 227 years than most countries have in the last 1000, in just about every aspect of life.

1) jealousy
2) ignorance - they just jump on their local hate america bandwagon without really knowing why they are protesting
3) they see us as warmongers for fighting Iraq without the approval of UN when we've used the lack of approval by the UN as a way of validating stopping countries from taking actions (hypocrites)
4) its the "in" thing to do everywhere else in the world
5) some are just anti-war in general and since the US uses its influence throughout the world more often the other nations it builds up hate towards the US
6) they don't know why we are going to war with Iraq, the majority of them don't understand the pertinent facts as to why, they just see it has warmongering
7) they see US citizens as cocky
8) GWB
9) their ignorance sometimes leads to fear, people hate what they fear

-Irrationnal fear encouraged by medias (Many people here in Canada actually DO fear that after Saddam is disposed of, the US will, for some reason invade Canada :| )

-Jealousy. It can become very frustrating for people to see someone be better than themselves at everything. Like the "goblin" said in Spider-man: "what people prefer to a hero is seeing a hero fail". So, many people who like their own country are frustrated to see that the US is bigger, more free, richer, with lower taxes and still all the public services are offered, with a very large military force, and on top of that, most Americans live a good and quiet life, with their children and a suburban house.

Even though they deny it, most people have those ideals, and they are just jealous that the Americans have all of them.

America to people on the outside is like how many of us look at Microsoft.

Now remember that many use microsoft outside of the us, so not only is the US, to them, like how we view Microsoft, but they also view Microsoft the way we view Microsoft, plus Microsoft is from the US, and so is Mcdonalds. So how can you not hate the US if you not American?
