I'm just wondering why?
Why would someone create a computer virus to mess up random strangers computer?
I can't even think of a good comparison. Even childish pranks like egging someones house usually involve a victim you know.
Can anyone think of a possible explaination?

Same reason why people kick over sandcastles, destroy mailboxes or throw rocks through windows.

the very same reason that someone would think of a nickname like HatterMadness.

Computer virus writing has become a lucrative business these day. Think of it this way:

1. Write computer virus.
2. ...
3. Profit!

well there was the nopir.b virus that came from france, it deleted all MP3 files on a person computer (i wonder who had a hand in that)

and with all the trojan downloaders they can download more spyware and display ads for ad revenue for the writer

but as for stuff like the blaster, skynet, and bagel viruses, i really see no point

bagel and skynet were/are in some sort of fued where one will uninstall the other when they both get on the same machine

A lot of the 'viruses' out today aren't meant to cause grief. They turn your computers into 'zombies' and spam-bots. Basically turning your PC into an SMTP MTA that spams non-stop. There's much more money to be made that way.

they are good in moderate defeatable doses, just like regular viruses--we can build-up a tolerance to them. then when the aliens get here, all their software will die
