Why do people buy cell phone covers?

I've bought a couple in the past but after about a week stopped using them. I don't like them at all. They also usually make the phone bulkier.

I get a new phone often enough that I don't care if it gets scratched anyways.

I actually use a case for the first week then stop because it is bulky and annoying...but recently these cheap ass phones they make now have problems with condensation getting in the battery from going to a hot outside to AC inside...which is BS because liquid damage is not covered under anything and you are forced to either yell and scream at verizon and have security called on you like I did and not calm down until you get a new phone (had the phone for 2 days and stopped working)...or eat the cost any buy another...makes me rethink using a case.

Please be more specific. Do you mean a holster that covers the entire phone while allowing the user to belt clip their phone. Or do you just mean a phone slip cover that does nothing more then keep your phone clean. If you mean the second yes I think it?s kind of retarded. I?ve learned to buy a cell phone leather holster for my phone each time I get one. The reason is I always get a 2yr contract with Verizon and I want to lessen the chances of something happening. If a phone gets dropped in a holster it has a less likely chance of breaking. It also increases the resale value of the phone if there are no scratches (eBay).

I have a $420 verizon blackberry that my company paid for and a V325 that I bought. Both have leather holsters.

While you're asking, throw in the folks that buy 99% of the iPod accessories out there. Have you seen some of those cases?!? Sheesh, all of a sudden your Nano can go from fitting in your palm to needing a backpack to carry it!

If you get the OEM leather cases they fit much better and are less of an annoyance. If you get those cheap one's they sell at walmart then it's a different case. i have this OEM Motorolla case from Motorolla for my V325. It fits great. It's of a better quality material and all the holes fit over different openings. The snap on the belt clip is ingenious as well.

talk about stretching it a little....... even a hard case will only add a couple of mm to the device. I have a hard case for my ipod video I would rather pay $20 for a crystal clear case than have a scratched up ipod

I have a three-year-old Nokia 7650 and the only part that matters - the screen - is scratchless. The only noticeable scratch is in the bottom-right corner and it's no big deal. And my phone has fallen off counters at least two dozen times (vibration mode FTW) and taken a lot of general abuse. Plus, I have this tendency to put my keys in the same pocket as my phone. And before I forget, I ride a bike to get around town and when it rains - it really rains out here.

Phone still works fine. Phone covers are silly, bulky and make the screen hard to read.

Nokia makes the most expensive phone. I don't like them though. I remember I had a Nokia about 4 years ago. It was one of those candy bar types. It had the slim battery that slid off of it. The battery contacts would not make good contact with the phone. So any slight movement would cause the phone to lose power and cut out. I went to verizon and they said it was a verifyable problem. They put velcro on the inside of the phone to stop it. The manufacture wasn't going to fix it. It was frustrating as sh1t. One day I got soo angry I jumped on the phone and threw it in the trash.

Bought a Nokia 8265 for -$50 AR and bought a body glove case which added virtually no bulk to the phone. Sold the phone after using it for 3 years for $100 because it had no scratches on it.

I've got a leather cellphone cover... I use it to protect it from scratches and other damages.

on my last phone, the clip that kept the battery attached to the phone got damaged from banging around in my pocket with my keys, so I figured I'd avoid that problem on my new phone.

I have a case for my razr but I haven't used it in a really long time. I originally bought it for protection but since it makes the phone a lot fatter, I don't use it.

Some people are just really anal about keeping things neat and tidy. Same thing with ipod covers. I figure I want the devices as small as possible so I never really buy covers for my phone or ipod, I just accept that there will be scratches and they really do not even affect the visibility of the screen at all. Trying to keep stuff always looking new is just a waste of time and an excersize in futility

i have a body glove cover and i know for a fact that it has saved my phone from impact damage when i have dropped it. thats the point.

I just do not see the point. These things are supposed to be lightweight and durable. Long gone are the days where phones would break from a fall. I guess unless you work at a construction site or some place where something freakish would happen.

IMO:
It ruins the look of the phone
It is not like you are going to resale it so, there is point in trying to preserve its value
To keep it shiny? I think not! More than likely if you have a case on it you are not even enjoying any shiny surfaces or letting anyone else.


I just bought an iphone and i do not see the point of getting anything for it because these things are actually pretty rugged.

Sure I was exaggerating for effect, but one of the reasons I got my Nano was for the small size. I've seen some hard cases that are downright grotesque and quite bulky. My comment was really for the proliferation of "must have" iPod accessories. For example, at the local Fry's the iPod aisle devotes maybe 5% space to actual iPods, and the rest to a host of these friggin' accessories. Most of them have little actual practical purpose (IMHO).

It just seems that adding cases or covers for anything beyond actual protection seems to defeat the purpose of a small, portable device. Just my opinion.

I use a nylon puch. Had a crappy leather one that actually managed to scratch the very phone I was trying to protect. Main reason I got it is to 'armour' it up a bit so I could throw it in my bag with keys and not worry about getting it scratched. That and throw my bag around a bit and not break anything. Still, I went a bit overboard. Wasted $13 on the garbage case, $20 on the good one I absolutely love and $15 on an as*load of LCD screen protectors (gave up on person who said would get me one) that aren't very clear. I need to hide my credit card...

Should've gotten insurance, or not gotten the "free phone!". "Free phoners" piss me off, because you always want something for nothing, and bitch about the cheap junk you didn't pay for breaking.

I don't have anything to protect my KRZR, but I don't mistreat my phones, IE: they don't go in a pocket with anything else, I don't set it face down on hard/rough surfaces, and I try my damndest to keep it from hitting the ground.

Once I complete my casing change, though, I'm buying an invisible shield for it.
