Why do people assume I work at Bestbuy?

I have an internship at the moment where I have to dress accountant style with a white shirt, dark pants, and a coordinating tie. After work I stroll into Bestbuy to pick me out a pair of 22" inch monitors and within my twenty minute excursion, I was asked for help three times. Once, I was asked to retrieve a cell phone from the back. The second someone asked me to repair their computer (should've said cash only and done it there). And the third someone asked me about a printer's product features. (Hell if I know)

I've never seen anyone who works at Bestbuy in white. The floor people are in blue and security in yellow. What gives? Is it my age?

Sounds like Geek Squad wear, white shirt, black tie.

I had on a blue tie and a long sleeve dress shirt.

Sounds similar enough. It's not like most people memorize the uniform of Geek Squad.

because you looked the part.

i have been asked questions in stores before like i was an employee but most likely it is because i scrutinize my soon-to-be purchase closely and my guess is they think I am stocking the item.

A few days ago I was wearing a ragged carhartt t-shirt and a pair of dickies jeans and I got asked for help twice at Wal-Mart.

I would have thought you'd have to be in a wife beater and an old dirty truckers hat with "STROHS" written on it. 😀

Once, I went to Target with a red collared t-shirt on with Khakis. After the second person asked for help, with my witty response of "I have no idea", I scratched my head, looked down and laughed. Then I told the woman ... oh, I don't work here.

The best part was the

The same thing happens to me. Whenever i go into the Gap, someone always asks me if i work there. I don't even wear gap clothes too.

People are stupid.

Happens to me in fry's sometimes too. I know exactly what you're talking about. My work clothes consist of a nice dress shirt and usually black slacks. People are just ignorant for the most part and don't pay attention.

Reminds me of when I was 16 or 17 working at Panera Bread. One day I wore khaki pants and a red polo. During my lunch break, I walked over to the nearby Target where several people asked me for help.

This reminds me of the Arrested Development episode where GOB was wearing a shirt and tie in a restaurant and people assumed he was a waiter...so he just started working 🙂
