Why do people add you on Linkedin but cancel it later?

It has happened a few times already. These are people I met them once or twice in the past, or stopped staying in touched and I get an email notification that they added. But when I log in a few days later, it looks like they cancelled it. I'm just curious as to why people do that.

I found your problem right here:

Seriously; you have to manage your contacts so that you arn't looked down uppon.

This is why I only have the "right" kinds of people as friends on face book.

In LinkedIn, there's a button on the first screen that looks like a "Login" button, but it's actually a "send a friend request to all network contacts" button. Noobs might be clicking that.

This is probably what happened.

Randy: Yo brah, I'm so wasted. Let's be brahs on LinkedIn.
You: Oh snap brah. I love you let's be brahs.
- Randy adds you to LinkedIn
- You accept and put on your Aviators because you're such a bad ass. *Danger Zone*
- Randy looks at your picture and realizes he was wasted and made a terrible mistake
- Randy defriends you.
- You are forever alone.

Not sure, but I am guilty of what you describe. I got LinkedIn and added a bunch of people, but ended up getting rid of it. Didn't like LinkedIn. I just want to worry about one social networking interface (only Facebook).

LinkedIn is not a purely social networking interface ... in the way I use it. If I view you as not at least a potential help professionally for or I to you, then you get de-linked.

I also do not want more than 150 contacts although lately that has been creeping up over 160 so I will be doing some house keeping sometime. Who I de-link depends on how long they have been in my contacts list and if they ever comment to any group. There are certain execs I will keep because they do not hide their contact list & I can use it to shop for my own.

TBH probably head hunters checking your full profile out then deciding you aren't what they are looking for.
