Why do Nvidia drivers cause so many problems???

I swear, 9 out of 10 crashes have something to do with a file related to the drivers for my Creative GeForce 256DDR. Currently I can't run Half Life in Open GL mode without it crashing. Half Life has worked fine for years and I just reinstalled Win ME. I am using the Nvidia 7.17 drivers. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks for any help and merry xmas.

Well, that's your problem. Those drivers are soooooooooooooo bad it ain't even funny. They haven't even been officially released by NVidia. They are worse than betas, they are more like Alphas. They are internal test versions.

Take the 6.31 reference drivers (latest from NVidia) and call me in the morning 😀

If you use beta drivers, what do you expect? For stability and compatibility get the det 3 drivers like NFS4 said. I can't even get half my games to run on the 7.17 in win2k.

You can try the 6.31 drivers, but they can cause shutdown errors in WinME. I had this problem, and switching to the 6.34 drivers eliminated the problem.

This is why companies like Nvidia are going to become strict on leaked drivers.... it causes fools to run around yelling NVidia drivers suck.... if you dont want to deal with it stop using leaked (unoffical) drivers.

That's interesting, my gf2mx is the smoothest installation and most dependable vid card I've ever owned, and with superior 3d..all with default nvidia drivers. You might check the FAQ's here: geforcefaq.

I was unaware that that these are unreleased drivers :Q . How do I put back the older ones? I tried and it just crashes before Windows loads.

Boot up in the &quot;safe&quot; mode(hold down F8 while MB is detecting drives) and then remove your display adapter(Creative DDR) and before re-starting remove the drivers in the add/remove programs in your Control Panel. When you re-boot windows will try to re-install the &quot;old&quot; drivers but &quot;cancel out&quot; and change your display adapter to standard vga display using windows drivers. After you re-boot go to adapter in display properties and click change. Now &quot;point&quot; windows to the folder that has the drivers you want to install. All of this should happen after you have chosen which drivers you want to use(down-loaded, un-zipped and put in a folder, example; &quot;Det. 6.34&quot😉! I have a DDR also and have found that 6.31-6.50 series have all worked well but check the forums on the above sites to see which ones people with a similar set-up are using. Good Luck!
