Why do my Logitech Z-560's make a popping crackling sound when I turn up or down the volume?

This usually only happens when I havent touched the volume settings for a while. After the first crackling or popping sound, I can turn up or down the volume and it doesnt do it anymore. Then after a couple hours of not using it, it happens again. Anything I can do to fix this annoying problem? or is it a defect in the speakers

I'm pretty sure it's a defect in the speakers. How long have you had them? Do a search of the forums and you will find many other people reporting the same thing.

I think it is a problem with the volume control. The contacts get dirt or dust in them and become intermittent. I usually solve this by spraying contact cleaner, made specifically for this purpose, into the volume control, . But if you're in warrantee, call Logitech.

This is typically a sign that the volume control is dirty.

There is a easy easy to clean it without chemicals though.

Turn the dial very quickly back and forth through its entire range of movement. The quicker the better. Just a few seconds of this will clean it up and should stop the popping.

Sometimes this is a temporary fix. If the noise keeps comimg back, you'll need to spray.

RadioShack and other electronic stores have it under different names.
I've seen it called tuner cleaner or degreaser. Don't get one that contains lubricant.
