Why do my knees ache the morning after drinking heavily?

Anyone else experience this? The joints at my knees ache the morning after drinking.

I should add, I'm 26, 6', 177lbs, in decent shape, low blood pressure, no diseases or pre-existing conditions.

I intend to speak to my physician, but I wanted to know if it's a common phenomenom.

I think it's because when you're drunk, your form gets poor and you put your weight on your legs in an awkward manner. You tend to hurt yourself and not know it, since your ability to feel pain is reduced.

All the blood in the upper part of your body was replaced with alcohol, so it moved down to the lower part of your body, and since blood weighs more than alcohol you're feeling it in your knees.

What exactly do you do when you drink?

Lift the glass to my mouth. Allow booze to enter mouth. Swallow. Repeat.

When you drink, do you usually sit or stand up? And do you stay up later than you normally do?

Just a random thought that might be related...

If you are drinking that heavily then you are likely upsetting the density of your blood, and perhaps that has upset the pressure in the synovial fluid of your knees thus resulting in premature joint cavitation (i.e. that uncomfortable feeling you get when you need to pop your joints)?

If you're otherwise healthy I can't think of anything else.

BTW, Alcohol increases swelling. You probably have a pre-existing condition that you cannot normally feel. Alcohol is causing it to swell, and ache.

Other posibilities:

Gout
Arthritis

Both can be inflamed by alcohol use/abuse.

That's my guess. See a doctor.

A mixture of standing and sitting, very occassionally dancing. I always stay up later than normal, by many hours.
