why do motherboards cost so much

The last time I build a computer from the ground up was about 4 years ago. At that time,, if I remember correctly, you could get a high end motherboard for less than $150.

I just started looking at new stuff, and noticed that motherboards are selling for $200-$300. Why?

Because you want core 2 and those motherboards are still fairly new and bleeding edge.

Either your memory has dimmed, you bought AMD last time, or you waited longer after a new intel chipset was released.
