...look like someone already ate them and pooped them out? I bought a box to have as a 2:00 snack to keep my energy up during the day. I just opened up my "cliff bar" and my first thought was "wow this looks like a big fat turd with little corn pieces in it." Cant they at least make these things look appetizing?

Proteen != Protein

The best ones I have tried are AST's VyoPro bars. They aren't the cheapest but they are by far the best tasting and have the least amount of sugar in them.

Clif Bars taste the best, but have higher sugar and less protein.

Anything with high protein (15g+) tastes like crap (you know the bitter protein flavor when you taste it).

As for why they look bad? Because no one but you cares.

They look like someone ate them already because the protein used to make them is predigested for better/quicker absorption.

Because the people who actually eat protein bars use them to supplement their daily intake of protein, not because it ****** tastes good. Most weight lifting powders, bars, etc taste like crap.

Some Cliff bars taste pretty good...you just have to cut down on your regular sugar intake so that your tastebuds get used to them ;)

Protein bars, supplements, vitamins! As a Chef, it makes me want to puke! I swear that if a pill existed which provided 100% of daily nutrition and kept you from being hungry, 90% of people would stop eating.

Food is grown people! I want to know how my food got from the dirt to my plate. I want to know that a farmer husbanded his crop before selling it at market. I want to know what factors of the environment create better food stuffs. I want to know what new/old products are available etc, etc.

Eating is a part of life. Not only for nutrition but, for sharing between friends, family and, co-workers. Food is a link to culture, history and art.

If we ever attain that detestable pill, humanity and civilization will disappear over night to be replaced by drab drones lacking any creativity or passion.

As someone who lifts weights, you can't always eat real food all the time. It's also kind of cost prohibitive in the bulking up stages...there's only so much chicken, turkey, tuna you can shove down the hatch. Protein shakes and bars offer an easy way to get that protein. Don't get me wrong - I'm all about food and eating. I love cooking and baking. Just sometimes supplements are easier and cheaper.

I love to cook, but there are times when I would love to have a meal-in-a-pill. Unfortunately real-life doesn't always allow you time to carefully cook and enjoy all your meals.

The idea of a supplement is....get this...to supplement! Imagine that. You can have your homemade 3 square a day and have a prepackaged energy bar between them.

Technically I probably could make something similar to a Cliff bar, but for the cost and convenience they provide(along with bonus vitamins I can't easily add), it's just much more effective to buy a box of them from Sam's Club at the cost of $.83 a bar.
