It's sensory / sensual stimulation. The right kind of music can sooth your soul, calm your nerves, or set a mood, especially when intimacy is important. 🙂

What you said makes sense, but most people agree that I am one of the mellowest guys they've ever met; nothing phases me and I very very rarely get angry, but I love heavy metal. But maybe, using your idea, I like metal because it's the only way I can experience and/or release my frustration? I don't know... I like metal because it's full of passion and energy. I just like music with a lot of emotion and passion.
