Many of the best transducers available today use paper cones.

QFT

Nothing is WRONG with paper cones, especially if they are treated. People don't like to hear things are made out of paper but the goal of a speaker cone is to have low deflection, reduce harmonics, lightweight(most of the time) but strong.

Paper does all of these things very well.

Those were posted earlier, and he had no intention of returning it then.

Then he updated his post and he wanted to return to BB because it supposedly got scratched when it was in his "basketball shorts" or whatever. So he thinks a product that is easily scratched is defective.

wouldn't apple be a dick for making it so prone to scratch?

How is a gym supposed to get it scratched? WTF. I had it in my basketball short's pocket the whole time, with NOTHING else in the pocket to scratch it.

I can't believe you guys would feel that I'm ripping apple or best buy off. God some people here are so right winged sometimes. Ever heard of consumer rights? So you think businesses could screw off consumers anyway they want?

No, the problem with Bose is they put out a lot of sound for a small unit, but there is no quality. I have no use for loud speakers just for the sake of being loud, if they can't accurately reproduce sounds from a high quality audio source (read NOT mp3's). Remember the old addage: "quality over quantity"

Considering the lauded "Apple Quality", I sure seem to see a lot of "O NOEZ my ipod broke!!" posts here.. and on ipodlounge.. Please don't make the "but other players break too" argument after making the "the money buys you a player that breaks less" argument.

SORRY - but my best friend from college has worked for Bose for 7 years. She's fairly senior there. And even SHE says that the quality of their home audio systems sux bad. The ONLY good home audio product Bose ever made was the original 901s. My friend gets Bose gear to try for free...she had me hook up 3 different sets of Bose sat/sub speakers and components for a few months...eventually she returned all of it, and used her employee discount to buy sets of 901s.

Bose has SIGNIFICANT problems because their satelllites are too small to drive a deep midrange. Therefore, the "subwoofer" is really a midrange-bass woofer. Midrange is directional - so by putting all the mids into the .1 box, stereo (or 5.1) imaging is destroyed.

This is a FUNDAMENTAL design flaw of all of bose x.1 crap. They have marketed their "invisible" satillites to the point where they can't correct it. On top of that, their speakers themselves are made of less-than-top notch components - paper cones? in 2005? In "high-end" gear? hell no...

...for about the first year of ownership...then heat, humidity, and simple wear and tear break those little fibres down, treated or untreated. And then you have MUSH...

Too bad I expect my stuff to last a lot longer than that. That is WHY kevlar, aluminum, etc. have become preffered choices for mid/bass drivers, and silk is unparalleled for tweeters. Paper cones sound good in the store...but everyone knows what they sound like

They are both over priced. While Bose is not the best in terms of sound quality, their products are definately not junk, nor do they suck.....

People who think Bose is good are the same people who are happy with a 3 megapixel point and shoot camera. It's just not in their interest to own the ultimate quality and become a professional when they simply want decent. Unfortunately, Bose gives the perception of GREAT. Which is not true. Normally you get what you pay for, but in this case, you get screwed over!
