why do man holes always have steam coming out of them

It's rather obvious if you do. But then I wonder why sewer grates aren't round as well... I guess because they generally don't go down them.
Because it can roll, and because a round cover needs less steel than a square or rectangular one (for the same size person).



The answer, is because it's round it can't fall in the hole based on the cover being larger than the opening. If it was a different shape (square), it could fall in if you turned it a certain way.
